PLN Bids Out Bangkanai Steam Power Plant Project

JAKARTA (IFT) – PT PLN, a state-owned electricity firm, will hold a US$120 million bidding for the Bangkanai Power Plant project in Muara Teweh, Central Kalimantan. The power plant will start churning out electricity in June 2013, according to M Suryadi Mardjoeki, Head of Gas and Fuel at PLN.

English oil and gas firm, PT Salamander Energy Limited, has been selected to supply the gas for the said power plant from June 2013 to 2033. Salamander will supply 20 billion British thermal units per day (bbtud) for US$ 4.79 per million british thermal unit (mmbtu), with a three percent increase each year.

Based on IFT analysis, PLN will save US$ 144 million a year from the deal with Salamander. In the 20-year run, PLN will save US$ 2.88 billion.

The IFT Research Department also projects that Salamander will obtain revenues totaling US$ 751.61 million or Rp 6.46 trillion.

Timika Steam Power Plant

PLN will also hold a bidding for the Rp 1 trillion 2x25 megawatt Timika Steam Power Plant in Papua. The project will be completed in 2013.
